In Indian belief there was a legendary king Ikshvaku, who was the founder of the Solar Dynasty, also known as Suryavamsa, comprises of the lineages of Kshatriya Varna. The all time great leader Rama belonged to this Dynasty. According to Harivamsa, Ikshvaku was granted the Kingdom of Aryavarta by his father Vaivasvata Manu, who survived in Aryavarta region after the great flood (mention in Matsyapuran). Other Valuable Kings we find in this Dynasty are Prithu, Mandhatri, Pramod, Trishanku, Harishchandra, Rohitashva, Dileepa I, Bhagiratha, Ambarish, Raghu, Aja, Dasaratha and many others.
We can find this dynasty's name on Buddhist and Jain text too. According to Jain text the Ikshvaku dynasty comes from the word ikhsu (sugarcane or আঁখ), which was another name of The first Jain Tirthankar Risabhanatha, as he taught people how to extract ikshu-rasha (juice of sugarcane). Other renowned Jain personalities of this dynasty were Bharata Chakravarti (1st Chakravarti) , Bahubali, Arkakriti and Marichi, the second Tirthankar Ajitanath, Sagara (2nd Chakravarti), Rama, Lav, Kush, Mahavira (the last Tirthankar) and many others including 21 Tirthankars.
In Buddhist text, Buddhavamsa and Mahavamsa we find that the origin of the Shakyas was from the King Okkaka whose sanskrit is equivalent to Ikshvaku. Some important names which are found in this clan are Okkamukha, Sivisamjaya, Sihassara, Jayasena, Sihahanu, Suddhodana, Siddhartha, Rahula..
So, that's a brief information over Solar or Ikshvaku Dynasty...we see that in every Hindu religious belief and text we can find the trace of this clan, and that's why it provides a great essence of the oldest Mythology, oldest belief i. e. Ancient Indian Mythology..
